President Tinubu snags another kiss of life

President Tinubu kisses the Black Stone

What goes on in your head when you kiss? Your guess is as mouthy as anybody’s.

But Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu lipped the Black Stone Hajar Al-Sawad at Ka’abah, Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Friday, and his reason carried some extra zing.

According to him, he went in there, and performed the pilgrim rite in spirit of supplication.

“I asked for wisdom and resilience to continue to serve the people,” he said.

Tinubu’s tenure is about to expire, and he struggles to secure a second term in about two months’ time.

Before the 2023 election, he had a kiss, too. “I asked Allah to bless my Umrah then, and he did.”

It seems there’s so much a holy kiss can do.

Plus all the pizazz Tinubu got for this year’s Umrah: the Black Stone fence draped in Nigeria’s colors, the Nigerian entourage flocking into the two major mosques.

The visit became the first of its kind—perhaps that no other political pilgrims can make this year.
