Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Company’s over N2 trillion initial public offering has become the biggest ever in Nigeria and Africa. And the cheapest, too.
Chairman Aliko Dangote said the offer sells at N525 per ordinary share for a minimum of 10 shares. So you know fossil fuels and their big business are not about to fizzle out. No matter what the Paris Agreement, the COP Nth Accord, and other treehuggers say.
Just that as the whale of an offer goes down soon, after a two-week extension and a special boon to students, the profile of investors in Nigeria’s capital market may still show little excitement. Very likely the scramble will come from the old fossils — investors between 40 years and 69 years — making up over 60 percent of the 6 million traditional capital market investors in Nigeria.
Compare that with 60 million Nigerians betting their shirts on prediction markets, especially football matches, daily.
The NGX has, however, confirmed a stream of Gen-Z’ers and millennials trickling in lately. Bless technology.
